Single Use Batteries

The Beginning -

In September 2023, Bowen Nago, a fifth-grade student, sent an email to the City Council suggesting the City bring a battery collection box to Mercer Island. Batteries often end up in the landfill yet can be recycled if collected properly. This got the wheel turning as staff began working with Call 2 Recycle, recycling vendor, to bring a collection box to Mercer Island, specifically Mercer Island Thrift Shop.

Now -

The Battery Collection Box is located at the entrance of the shop for customers to bag up their batteries to be recycled.

How to Recycle -

1. Place all batteries in a sealed bag (provided)

2. Drop your bag of batteries to recycle in the box
